# Connect HubSpot

> Connect your HubSpot account to Beacon yourself, from the Connections page — the warning HubSpot shows, every permission it asks you to approve, and what you see afterwards.

You connect HubSpot yourself, from Beacon's **Connections** page. It takes about five minutes. You approve access on HubSpot's own page — **Beacon never sees your HubSpot password**.

HubSpot gives Beacon your companies, deals and pipeline.

## Before you start

* **You need a HubSpot user that can install apps** in your company's HubSpot account. If HubSpot won't let you approve, ask your HubSpot account's admin to do the approval step.
* **If you can open more than one HubSpot account**, HubSpot asks which one to connect. Choose the one your company sells from.
* **HubSpot will show you a warning** before you approve. It is covered in step 4 so it doesn't surprise you.

## Connect it

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Connections">
    In Beacon, go to **Settings → Connections**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose Connect HubSpot">
    Open the **CRM · HubSpot** row and choose **Connect HubSpot**. You can also use **Connect a tool** at the top of the page and pick HubSpot.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Sign in to HubSpot">
    HubSpot's own page opens. Sign in if HubSpot asks you to, and choose your account if it offers more than one.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Read HubSpot's warning">
    Beacon's HubSpot app is not listed on HubSpot's marketplace yet, so HubSpot has not reviewed it. Until it has, HubSpot shows a red panel saying the app could put your data at risk, and asks you to **type "I accept the risk"** before you can continue. A second note says the app hasn't been reviewed or approved by HubSpot.

    This is expected during the pilot. If you would rather talk it through first, stop here and contact Beacon.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Review what Beacon asks for">
    HubSpot lists every permission before you approve — thirteen lines. They are set out in plain words below.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Approve">
    Approve on HubSpot's page. HubSpot sends you back to Beacon.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Check it on Connections">
    A banner confirms the connection, and the HubSpot row reads **Connected**. Open it to see your HubSpot account number, the date you connected, and **Not used yet**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## What HubSpot asks you to approve

| HubSpot permission | In plain words |
| - | - |
| Companies, deals, deal line items, quotes, contacts and tickets | **Read** each of these records. |
| Company fields and deal fields | **Read** the list of fields your companies and deals carry. |
| Add company fields and deal fields | **Add** new fields to companies and deals. |
| Update companies and deals | **Change the values** on companies and deals. |
| Your HubSpot account's basic details | Its primary domain and user emails. HubSpot adds this line for every app. |

**Today Beacon only reads.** The Connections page says so: *Reads it. Writes nothing back yet.* The add and update permissions are asked for now so you won't have to approve again if that changes.

**Beacon does not ask to change your contacts.** Contacts appear in the list only as something Beacon may read.

## After you connect

**Not used yet** means Beacon has not read from HubSpot through this connection so far. Once it has, the panel shows the date instead.

Until Beacon has read from HubSpot, anything that needs your CRM shows **Not measured**. Nothing is worked out from your other tools instead.

## Change or remove the connection

Both are in the HubSpot panel on Connections:

* **Reconnect HubSpot** takes you through HubSpot's page again.
* **Disconnect HubSpot** asks you once to confirm. When you do, Beacon stops using the permission straight away.

[Use the Connections page](/use-the-connections-page) explains every state on the page.

## If it doesn't work

If you land back on Connections and HubSpot doesn't read **Connected**, try again from the HubSpot row. If it still doesn't connect, tell your contact at Beacon what the page says.
