# Contracted ARR

> The yearly value of every running contract added up, in your reporting currency — what is under contract today. A headline figure of the Contract intelligence module.

## What it is

`contracted_arr` is the yearly value of every running contract — signed and started, signed and not yet started, or within 90 days of renewing — added up, in your reporting currency. It is a headline figure of the [Contract intelligence module](/modules/contract-intelligence), which shows it on its banner by segment and on its Dashboard by segment and customer fit.

It answers: **how much yearly revenue is under contract?** Today, with every record opened from billing and resting on billing alone, it reads the same as what billing says those subscriptions bring in a year. The two part ways as contracts are added: a signed contract that has not started yet is under contract and not yet on billing, and a contract's value in another currency is converted at its own contract's rate rather than billing's. Records opened from a signed contract rather than from billing are not yet possible, so that first difference is ahead of today.

It is published for your company as a whole, on the [company and period object](/data-model/company-period).

## How it is calculated

Measured. A sum of source facts:

`contracted_arr` = the yearly value of each running contract, added up.

A contract is **running** when its status is Active, Signed not started, or Renewing. Each contract's yearly value is your data store's own sum over its lines — one line per product, priced for a record opened from billing at what the subscription brings in a year as billing holds it for the latest billing month, and for a draft at the deal's amount. Drafts are in the pipeline, not running, so they are not in this figure.

A contract in another currency enters at its value in your reporting currency, converted at the exchange rate for the day of its latest billing date — or, for a contract not yet billed, its start date — and held until that day moves. **A contract with no currency on record, or no stored rate for its day, is left out and counted**, never assumed to be in your currency; the page says how many contracts are not counted for this reason.

Nothing is weighted, estimated or scored. The morning run copies each contract's lines and rate; the sum over the lines, the conversion and the sum over contracts are your data store's own formulas. [Contract intelligence — how it is calculated](/definitions/contract-intelligence) sets out every rule.

## Where it comes from

| Source | What it supplies | Required |
| - | - | - |
| Your billing (Stripe) | Every running subscription, its product and what it brings in a year — the record opened for each | Yes |
| Terms typed into *Add contract* | A contract's term and renewal date, which decide whether it is Renewing | Adds to it |
| Beacon's exchange rates | The European Central Bank's reference rate for the day, for a contract in another currency | Read when a contract is in another currency |
| Your CRM | The connection Contract intelligence needs to start | Yes |

| Where it is available | |
| - | - |
| Read interface | Yes, with an opt-in |
| MCP | Yes, with an opt-in |
| Events | Yes, with an opt-in |
| CRM property | Yes, with an opt-in |

<Note>
No read interface or MCP tool serves this value yet. This table publishes its shape ahead of the doors.
</Note>

**Where the choice is made.** This value is not open by default on any door. The choice happens when a reader grant that reaches it is issued or widened, when you subscribe to events, or when you turn the CRM property on. Whoever makes it is shown who becomes able to see the value, and their yes is recorded. It sits at the same ceiling as your margin figures: the people who read the full contract portfolio in Beacon are your Finance lead, your account owner and your CRO, so a grant that carries it is a leadership grant.

## How fresh it is

Worked out once a day, after your tools have synced, from the latest closed billing month — the calendar month before the day the run starts. **Which day's figure stands for a period is not yet declared**; until it is, read the value with its own `computed_at`.

Both timestamps travel with it: the moment the value describes, and the moment Beacon last worked it out.

## Currency and rounding

Stated in your single reporting currency. Each contract's original currency and amount are kept beside the converted value, and a rate once taken is held until the contract's billing date moves — a rate move never restates a figure you have already seen. The anchors behind it are of two kinds, a billing event for records opened from billing and the contract's start date for the rest, and the figure travels with that list rather than with one date. A converted line is rounded to cents.

## What changes it

A subscription starting, growing, shrinking or ending in billing, arriving at the next morning run. A signed contract that billing has not started invoicing will raise it before billing does, once records can be opened from signed contracts — today every record is opened from a billing subscription or an open deal. A contract crossing into its last 90 days stays in it; a contract ending leaves it. A rate change moves it only when a contract's billing date moves on to a day with a different rate.

## What it is not

* **Not [annual recurring revenue](/definitions/arr).** That is recurring revenue on billing, multiplied by twelve, at the period's lock. This is what the contract records add up to, and it includes a signed contract that billing has not started invoicing. Today, with every record opened from billing, the two read the same; they part ways as contracts are added.
* **Not the 12 months ahead.** That spreads each contract over the months of its term and applies the standard chance of renewing. This is a point-in-time total, with no chance applied.
* **Not the pipeline.** Drafts from open deals are not running contracts and are not in it; the page shows open-deal value separately.
* **Not a forecast and not a score.** Nothing in it is estimated or weighted.
* **Not [contract coverage](/definitions/contract-coverage-rate).** That counts subscriptions; this adds up value. A company can be covered on few large contracts or many small ones, and the two figures tell them apart.
