# Use the Connections page

> What the Connections page shows, what each state means, and how to connect, reconnect or disconnect a tool yourself.

The Connections page lists every kind of tool Beacon can read from, shows whether each one is connected, and holds the buttons for the tools you connect yourself. Find it under **Settings → Connections**.

## The top of the page

The first line names what is connected — for example, **HubSpot and Slack are connected** — with three counts beside it: connected, ready to add, and coming later.

**Checked just now** means Beacon checked each tool when you opened the page. If it could not check one, the line says **Some tools could not be checked just now**, and that tool's row reads **Not checked**.

**Connect a tool** opens a list of every tool. Only the ones you can connect today can be picked.

## Two lists

**Available now** holds the tools you can use today — the ones already connected and the ones ready to add.

**Coming later** holds the kinds of tool Beacon cannot connect for any customer yet, such as marketing, support and payroll tools. Anything that needs one of them shows **Not measured**. Beacon never works a figure out from your other tools instead.

## What each state means

| State | What it means |
| - | - |
| **Connected** | Beacon has your permission and can read from this tool. |
| **Not connected** | You can connect this one yourself. Open its row and choose **Connect**. |
| **Set up with Beacon's team** | During the pilot, Beacon's team connects this with you. You still approve access on the tool's own page. |
| **Coming later** | Beacon cannot connect this kind of tool for any customer yet. |
| **Not checked** | Beacon could not confirm this tool's state when the page opened. Open the page again. If it stays, tell your contact at Beacon. |

## Which tools you connect yourself

**You connect HubSpot and Slack yourself**, from this page. [Connect HubSpot](/connect-hubspot) walks through it step by step.

**During the pilot, billing and accounting are connected with Beacon's team.** To change or reconnect either, ask your contact at Beacon.

## Open a tool

Select any row to open its side panel. For a connected tool, the panel shows:

| Field | What it tells you |
| - | - |
| **Tool** | Which tool is connected. |
| **Account** | The account in that tool Beacon is connected to. |
| **Connected** | The date you gave Beacon permission. |
| **Last used** | When Beacon last read from the tool. **Not used yet** means Beacon has not read through this connection so far. |
| **What Beacon does** | Whether Beacon only reads, or also writes back. |
| **What the tool allowed** | The permissions you approved, in plain words. Shown for tools that list them, such as HubSpot. |

For a tool that is not connected yet, the panel says what it gives Beacon and how it connects.

## Connect a tool yourself

<Steps>
  <Step title="Choose Connect">
    Open the tool's row and choose **Connect**, or use **Connect a tool** at the top of the page.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Approve on the tool's own page">
    The tool's own sign-in page opens. Sign in there and approve access. **Beacon never sees your password.**
  </Step>

  <Step title="Check it on Connections">
    You land back on Connections. A banner confirms the connection, and the tool's row reads **Connected**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Reconnect a tool

Open the tool's panel and choose **Reconnect**. It takes you through the tool's own page again, the same way you connected it.

## Disconnect a tool

Open the tool's panel and choose **Disconnect**. The page asks you once to confirm.

When you confirm, **Beacon stops using the permission straight away.** The record of what was connected is kept. Anything that needs the tool shows **Not measured** until it is connected again.

## "Writes nothing back yet"

Each connected tool's panel says what Beacon does with it. Billing reads **Reads it. Writes nothing back.** HubSpot reads **Reads it. Writes nothing back yet.**

The word *yet* is there because the permission you approve in HubSpot includes updating companies and deals, and Beacon does not use that part today. [Connect HubSpot](/connect-hubspot) lists every permission HubSpot shows you.
