Before any figure — the status line
Above everything there is a line saying whether Revenue data is switched on for your company, and the date the figures behind it were last read. It comes first on purpose. A figure without the state of the thing that produced it is a figure you cannot judge. If the page can show nothing at all — your billing system is not connected, or Revenue has not been switched on for your company — it says that once, under the status line, and draws nothing else. That is a hard stop, not an empty period: with no billing there is no recurring revenue to show. Two views
Comparative is present and its charts are not drawn yet. The page says why: comparing needs your customers grouped by segment, country or product, which Beacon does not do yet.
The control rows
Three rows sit under the tabs. A control that has nothing behind it yet is shown, switched off, with the reason beside it — rather than hidden, so you can see what the page will do and what it cannot do today.Filters
In Regular this row isSegment is …, + Add filter and Clear all. In Comparative it becomes Compare by — Segment, Country or Product — and Narrow.
All of it is switched off today, with one reason on screen: segment, country and product switch on once Beacon groups your customers by them.
Reporting period
This row is live and it is the one that changes what you see.
Quarter is shown and switched off, with its reason: quarterly views arrive when Beacon provides quarterly company figures. Grouping months into quarters would mean adding revenue values together on the screen, which this page never does.
The period lives in the page address rather than in the browser, so a period you choose survives a reload and can be sent to someone else as a link. One thing to know: changing the period returns you to the Regular tab, so re-pick Comparative after you apply.
Compare with
Two dropdowns, both switched off. The reason on screen: nothing to compare with yet — add a budget or save a forecast and it appears here. The four tiles
Four company figures for the month you set as Actuals through:
A tile with no figure says “Not measured” and one sentence saying why — never a dash. A dash cannot be told apart from a zero, and the difference matters.
The reason you are most likely to see: company totals for that month have not been produced yet. Beacon adds them up in its data layer, not on this page, so the tiles fill themselves the day that lands.
The charts
MRR trajectory — your company’s recurring revenue across the reporting period. Actuals are drawn solid, forecast dashed, and the break is wherever you set Actuals through. A month with no stored value stays empty; it is never filled in or carried forward from the month before. Recurring revenue by subscription — one line per subscription, as recorded. Four more chart cards are present and not drawn, each carrying its own reason:
The first two are held back for the same reason the page adds nothing up: drawing a net figure would mean the screen working it out.
The table — Revenue by subscription
Every row Beacon holds for the months in your reporting period, as stored.
Three things the table will tell you when they apply:
- Future months are real rows, not projections. An invoice already issued that covers months ahead lands a row in each of those months. The line above the table says how many of the rows fall after your Actuals through month and are therefore marked Forecast.
- More than one currency. Each row is shown as it was recorded. Nothing is converted and nothing is combined.
- More rows than the page reads at once. Narrow the reporting period to see all of them.
Where each figure’s definition lives
Every figure label carries a ?. It opens a panel with a one-line definition and a link to the full article — the same article, wherever in Beacon you meet that figure. The tiles carry it, and so do the MRR and ARR columns in the table. Two limits worth knowing
Refunds made in Stripe are not read today. Recurring revenue from Stripe is stated before refunds: a refund by itself does not lower this figure, and Beacon does not estimate the refunded amount. Payment dates from your accounting system are not used yet. Receipt timing follows the invoice — when it was issued, when it was due, and when it stopped being open — and the gap between due and paid is not modelled. This one does not change anything on Revenue, which reads billing rather than your books; it is what to know before comparing this page against a cash figure. See Cash, and how long it lasts.Related
